Steve’s bio…
Dan Diehl
Dan grew up in a Christian family living in the Midwest, son of a pastor. Dan has never known life without the redeeming blood of Jesus Christ, and so the story and significance of the Holy Grail has always been of interest; although he never dreamed he would meet a man who’s father created the only known replica in the world!
Married with two kids, Dan had a career in corporate business before moving to Colorado. He and his wife now own and operate a couple family businesses.
Our Mission
To share the wonder, the history, and the mystery of The Great Chalice of Antioch.
Our Story
As a little boy, Steve remembers his dad frequently discussing the beauty and significance of The Great Chalice. Verne Kahler was caught up in the story and potential of the “Holy Grail” and wanted to get closer to it, so he hired a famous sculptor to create a replica. As young Steve was growing older, the allure of the Chalice was growing stronger and had impacted thousands of people, thanks mostly to Verne’s incredible vision for sharing. Verne used the latest “technology” of the day and created an entire program for guests to enjoy and learn about the Chalice.
When interest grew to a point that there were requests to manufacture (hundreds) more, Verne began to contact resources that could help fulfill those requests. Then, quite tragically, Verne was killed in an accident and the heartbeat of the Chalice went silent.
Decades later, Steve re-acquainted himself with the boxes of Chalice memorabilia, including letters to and from his dad and others, pictures and audio reels of the Chalice program, invitations to attend showings of the Chalice, and the original mold that was created by Carl Romanelli, from which the first replica was cast. This brought a renewed interest in the Chalice for Steve; partly for the nostalgia, but mostly a desire to finish what his dad started in the 1950’s.
Since a recent stroke has affected Steve’s ability to read, communicating electronically is a tremendous challenge for him. Steve was sharing with Dan about the Chalice and within a short period of time, Dan’s interest in the Chalice story began to grow– just as it had for countless thousands before. Together, Steve and Dan have decided to create a way for interested parties to learn more about this incredible story, and to purchase their own replica of the Chalice. Steve enjoys sharing his memories of the Chalice and what he remembers of his dad’s work, and he would love to share with you as well.
